CNC Programmer

Job Summary:
Set up and operate one or more computer numerical control (CNC) machines, including but not limited to lathes, multi-axis spindles, milling machines, laser cutting machines, and wire electrical discharge machines and others. Perform various functions, such as cutting, drilling, milling, reaming, boring, and broaching of metallic and nonmetallic workpieces, utilizing knowledge of machine tool capabilities, machinability of materials, and shop math. Set up simple to moderately complex jobs in order to cut, shape or form small diameter, close tolerance parts, including pointed parts, following standard charts. Set up and operate secondary equipment and perform any other functions within the department that may be necessary.The CNC Machining Set up Operator is capable of performing all tasks required of a CNC Machining Operator.
Required Training:
Set up the machine for the job. Support 1 2 machines with set ups.
Run machines, achieving specifications including quality and throughput.
Run production per schedule. Schedule work so that all of the machines are always running.
Implement continuous improvement activities.
Perform JobBOSS transactions.
Perform required daily maintenance to equipment and tools.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Review setup sheet and specifications to determine setup procedure, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished workpiece.
Work from established procedures and prescribed operation sequences to achieve parts per print and quality specifications.
Read and interpret blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and machining methods and sequences.
Mount, align, and secure tooling, attachments and workpiece on machine. Position the workpiece on the CNC machine tool.
Select and install cutting tools in machine spindle.
Calculate and set machine controls to position spindle in relationship to workpiece and to regulate factors, such as cutting depth, speed, feed and coolant flow.
Start the machine and monitor display and machine operation to detect malfunctions.
Stop machine to change cutting tools and setup according to required machining sequence or to measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
Enter commands or manually adjust machine controls to correct malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
Operate machine manually to perform non-automated functions and when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions.
Discuss control media error with supervisor or programming personnel to resolve problems.
Modify the program using the control module to eliminate problems or improve the speed and accuracy of the program.
Assemble cutting tools in tool holders and position tool holder in machine spindles as specified, using hand tools, or insert cutting tools in specified machine magazines.
Load control media, such as disk, tape, or punch card, machine control console or enter commands to retrieve preprogrammed machine instructions from data base.
Ensure workpiece is being properly lubricated and cooled.
Monitor, observe and listen to machine operation to detect malfunctions, such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
Change cutting tools and location of workpiece during machining process as specified in setup instructions; if the problem requires modification to the cutting program, shut down the machine and wait for CNC Machining Set up Operator.
Notify supervisor of discrepancies.
Troubleshoot process problems and make minor adjustments to achieve quality output. This will include minor adjustments to tooling, machines and/or part programs.
Perform own part inspection during the machining process to measure workpiece to check that it matches specifications, using a broad range of measuring instruments such as microscope, optical comparator, micrometer, caliper, dial indicators and gauges.
Assist support engineers with prove-outs and make suggestions to improve current processes as well as processes that are unproven.
Simultaneous to CNC machining operation, perform a variety of secondary operations as required.
Adjust machine feed and speed and change cutters to machine parts according to specifications when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions.
Machine materials other than metal, such as composites, plastic, and rubber.
Secondary Responsibilities (non-essential functions)
Follow written and verbal instructions to maintain high standard of quality.
Expected to maintain specifications as defined on drawing and/or routing.

Level of Skill, Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 3 years experience in a small device manufacturing environment as a CNC Machining Operator is required.Experience in medical device manufacturing, aerospace, machinery, metals, health, consumer goods a plus. Must be able to read blue prints, drawings, specifications and quality plans and have very strong oral and written communication skills, be able to follow written and verbal instructions and be capable of meeting assigned deadlines. Good manual dexterity and ability to use measurement and inspection tools like micrometers, microscope, etc. Good work habits, strong workmanship and a positive attitude are required as well as an ability, desire and flexibility to perform a variety of machining operations.


Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
